The Up from Here Project

The Up from Here Project seeks works that will embrace and promote the theme of teaching, uplifting, encouraging, and empowering our youth, communities, and families and individuals, not only through love, laughter and beauty, but also through the value of struggle. Themes particularly focusing on youths who are considered “at risk” and communities and families which have historically been under-serviced, underestimated, and overlooked are highly encouraged.
Most importantly, contributions should offer something that will give the readers a positive reading/viewing experience; and as applicable, something that will provoke them to not only look up from their current circumstances and situations with optimism and motivation, but also to move onward and upward, past negativity and through adverse conditions. All work should at least suggest or demonstrate that a better human condition is attained, attainable, or pursued. Submissions may have mild adult themes and/or language, but must not be pornographic or erotic.
We are looking for:
Short fiction (2,500 words or fewer)
Poetry
Inspirational prose
Anecdotes or Random ponderings
Creative imagery (drawing, painting, photography, etc.). Finished products must be available in high resolution.
REMEMBER: This is a charity book project. Except for cover designers, there is NO PAY for this project. All content contributors will receive a copy of the finished work, Up from Here. Cover designers, please send your initial concept submissions by 10 March 2012.
